      Overview

Pikey Peak trek is one of the unexplored trekking routes which offers an alluring view of the snow-capped mountain, including a close encounter with the world’s highest point, mount Everest.  Besides, it is one of the best Everest-viewing treks decleared by Sir Edmund Hillary (the first climber to reach Mount Everest). Hillary's claims may be valid as the stretched skyline you get to fit encompasses even the very far away points.  Pikey Peak is a single location that provides a magnificent view of the Himalayan range, including Annapurna, Manaslu, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, and other eight thousand lurks behind small but closer peaks throughout this walking journey. Moreover, the exquisite top of Numbur Mountain, which stands tall above Karyolung Peak, is right in front of you almost every day of the Pikey Peak short trek.  Your journey starts from Phaplu, around 2500m, and passes through Sllaeri, Ghunsa, and Jhapre. Besides, you will also get an option of starting from Pattatale and making it through Jhapre to Pikey.  You can visit the beautiful villages filled with hardworking and friendly Sherpa, Tamang, and Magar, also regarded as Pikey Peak Sherpa land. Along the way, you can visit the old monasteries decorated with prayer flags and colorful writings in Nepali languages.  With a lucky charm, you may encounter a local cultural performance that displays their proud tradition. It’s a recently discovered destination and a less tourist area with the chance to view Everest from proximity and learn about the Sherpa culture.  As you reach the base camp, you come across a vast mani wall studded with carvings by local artisans. After acclimatization at the 3600 high bases, you make your way to Pikey Peak, which is a bit easy as a slight elevation bump of 400m.

What is the best time to visit Pikey Peak Trek for 2023/24?

Like every trekking route, it will be a magnificent time if you will experience the beautiful panoramic view and the encounter of flora and fauna. The best season to visit the pikey peak trekking is autumn and spring, but summer and winter can also make the trekking experience slightly different.

      Spring Season

Pikey peak base comes in its best natural form in the spring in March and May, as it is the flower-blooming season. It is when you will view the vibrant rhododendron while trekking on the steep trail in the lap of the Himalayas.  Besides, rhododendron forests are ablaze with pin, crimson, and white blooms, and the mountain gleam against deep blue skies with pleasant weather. The temperature is mild, and the weather is clear and dry. The average daytime temperature range from 10°C to 15°C, while in the nighttime, the temperature can drop to 0°C.   With the stable weather with occasional rain at higher elevations, the spring season will make the area look like a natural garden.

      Autumn Season

The autumn season falls between September and November, with pleasant weather. It is also the best time to be a part of this trekking route, but the environment is slightly greener.  The forest is colorful, with the leaves turning red, yellow, and orange.  During this season, the skies are clear, and the temperature ranges from 10°C to 20°C, which can be a great time for sightseeing. Besides, the autumn season also offers magnificent views of the mountain Everest.

      Summer Season

The summer season in Pikey Peak base is characterized by warm weather and occasional rain showers. It runs from June to August, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, while at night, the temperature usually drops around 10°C.  Besides, the trails and surrounding hillsides are lush and green, which is the perfect time for nature lovers. However, the weather can be unpredictable, with rain and clouds occasionally obstructing the stunning snow-capped mountain views.

      Winter Season

The higher elevation of Pikey Peak can have a bit of extreme weather in the winter, with the cold temperature and snowy conditions ranging from -5°C to 5°C  in the daytime and  -20°C in the nighttime.  However, the vistas are marvelous, especially when the mountains are wrapped in white snow. The clear skies and snow will make the trekking even more thrilling. You may have to be well prepared with suitable clothing and equipment to ensure safety and comfort during the winter season.

One of the best viewpoints of the entire trek is our destination for today. Taksindu (2931 m)
provides a stunning sunset view (also sunrise). Along the trail, we encounter a river after which

Today we climb downhill and lose an elevation of 531 m until we reach Phaplu (2400 m), a small
village welcoming tourists with few numbers of shops, cafes, and restaurants. For most of the
trekkers, this is the ending point of the trek and they return to Kathmandu via flight from Phaplu
airport. However, our journey does not end here and we will continue with our trek to Kerung
      village the next day.
